The four generals, Kunzite, Nephrite, Jadeite, and Zoisite, were originally assembled under Prince Endymion of Earth. As Queen Beryl, under the influence of Metallia, gained power, she decided that there was a need for her own soldiers, rather than merely Metallia's. Who better, she decided, than Endymion's own soldiers. One by one, the generals were taken, their memories erased, and they became the generals of the Dark Kingdom. Two thousand years later, the generals were defeated by the Sailor Senshi and, save one, disposed of by Beryl or her forces.

Their story, however, was not over.

Charm Verse: A disturbance in the cosmos stirred the power of the spirit of Queen Serenity, and she revived the generals, their memories whole. Every act for and against the prince was remembered, and they were returned to Earth to seek out not only the reincarnated prince, now Chiba Mamoru, but to aid the Senshi in defeating the evil that the spirit had sensed.
